Ceremony of conferment of Italian citizenship

On March 9th, 2011 a ceremony for the conferment of Italian citizenship took place at the offices of the Consulate General of Italy where eight new citizens who took the oath of allegiance to the Republic of Italy before the Consul General Gianni Bardini.

The formal ceremony, open to the public, marked the conclusion of the process of acquisition of the Italian citizenship by:  Giuseppe CECCHIN, David Craig ELSIE, Mark STRYKER,Kenneth John RATHGEBER, Natalie AUDETTE, Thomas Albert JOHNSON, Lynda Lee RUTA, Maritza de la Caridad ESPINOSA RODRIGUEZ. They were all recognized officially recognized Italian citizenship by virtue of having been married to Italian spouses for more than three years.

During  the ceremony the Consul General Gianni Bardini stressed the significance of the event, occurring on the occasion of the 150th recurrence of the Italian unification, and conveyed the hope that the formal acquisition of the citizenship may serve as an incentive, as fully-fledged Italians, to learn and promote every aspect of the Italian culture in their daily activities.

The Consulate General of Italy in Toronto usually confers around twenty citizenship every year, by virtue of art.5 of Law n.91 of 1992. Application are finalized within an average time of 20 months, necessary to the Ministry of Interior in Rome to carry out all required procedural checks. 

The next ceremony should take place in September 2011.
